On my last day in Hong Kong, I was led down the fantastical path known as Gough Street – a decor maven’s mecca thanks to the string of Homeless decor stores that dominate the lane.

The first Homeless store we entered was entirely dedicated to the art of Hong Kong artist Carrie Chau and if you’re in the city, it’s well worth a visit. Chau’s well known for her childlike illustrations that at once enchant and intrigue with their layers of innuendo.

Aqua By Night   February 8th, 2010

Was treated to the most amazing dinner at Aqua bar and restaurant in Kowloon,  Hong Kong, on Friday night.

We started off in the bar with pink bubbles (my favourite) and bar snacks (a godsend considering I’d been cruising the malls until late) and then delicious vino and feasting until late with the view of the Hong Kong skyline and the light show as my view.  The interiors of Aqua are pretty impressive but the view, the view is to die for.

Nat’s Flat   February 8th, 2010

Wow, tagged along with my sister today to her friend Natalie’s flat – she lives in Happy Valley (cool name, huh?) – the HK equivalent of Tamboerskloof or Parktown North.

Loved her flat, in particular the art (my favourite was by Natalie herself) and the wallpaper, especially the graffiti goldfish. Whitewashed parquet flooring, a celebration of festive colours and incredible antiques, including a 250-year old bed that she bought in Portobello Market in London.

Camomile tea, custard tarts and the delights of Lola, Natalie’s daughter, and her Frenchie bulldog, Clea, all added to the happy ambience of a cosy Hong Kong afternoon.

Ah, just what I was looking for...

I had to giggle when I saw this photo of the Chanel shop window, sent in by my roving and camera-shy Hong Kong style scout Ian Mac (you won’t find a contributors blog on him because he is evading all requests for a photo of himself).

An Amy Winehouse beehive mixed with Jackie O-style sunglasses and Victorian-esque garb… ‘Scuse me, but what decade and century are they supposedly referencing here? And in what lifetime is this a good look to be punting in the tropical climes of Hong Kong?

I’m just saying…
