Meet iforone’s latest contributor, Vicki Sleet, who I have affectionately known as Vixen for many, many years. She is a long-time friend and, as an afficianado of all things bright and beautiful for the home, she has kindly accepted my offer to do a weekly decor round up.
Look out for her posts every Friday on ifor1, but if you can’t wait a week for her pearls of wisdom, check out her wondrous new blog I Want That.
PS. I’m writing a weekly Fashion Fix Friday post for her blog, so you can’t get away from me that easily. Moohahhahaha…

Meet my hippy, interior-designer, art-loving, wave-warrior friend, Willow.
Originally from Alaska, she moved to SA many moons ago to work for an NGO and has never left. I met her in the surf one fortuitous day and since then we’ve worked, laughed and even lived together.
As iforone’s newest contributor, Willow has kindly offered to report on the local arts scene and promises that the free wine and guy candy has nothing to do with it. Assistant: Sarah Hoberman January 15th, 2010
Meet my new right hand woman: Sarah Hoberman, oh she of the impeccable style and Louise Brooks bob. She’ll be helping me on iforone as a regular contributor, as well as on Dossier – my new pet project. And since she’s joining la familia, I thought you should get to know her a little better…
Where did you spend December and what was the highlight? Mauritius, where I’m from. Highlight was somewhere between spending time with my nephews and the traditional dressing up of my jewish husband as Father Christmas (for the kids, of course).
What’s your summertime wardrobe essential you can’t live without? One thing…mmm..a wheel-on bag containing an Eres bikini, a loose silk jumpsuit, a Leica m6 and massive “look-at-me-not-wanting-you-to-look-at-me” sunglasses.
Who or what defines your style? I do… I always wanted to say that! I’d define it as subtle, clean, classic but not obvious. The following people sit on my mind’s Style Council: Alber Elbaz (Creative Head), My husband (Finance Manager), Audrey Toutou (Acting Partner), Lady Gaga (Risk Assesment), Alexa Chung (Junior Assistant), Victoria Beckham (Employee of the Month… underestimate her at your own peril), Tamara Mellon (New Business Consultant), but at the end of the day it’s Karl who reports to me directly
What do you love about living in South Africa? Everything! (I’ve just returned from London)
What’s the first thing you think of when you wake up in the morning? Tea (I’ve just returned from London) Intern: Lovely Liebe December 10th, 2009
Meet Liebe Calitz, an-about-to-graduate Film Honours student from UCT who officially saved my life this past month – running errands and organising all kinds of things while I try and finish the business of being, well, me this year!
I’m sad to report that she’s been snapped up by someone smart enough to offer her full-time employment next year but thank you, thank you Liebe – I would not have made it through November and December without you! Style Scout: Ian Mac November 27th, 2009
Aaah, bless his Birkenstocks. At last roving Hong Kong Style Scout, Ian Mac, sent in a photo of himself for the Contributors page.
Friends who know him will, no doubt, gasp with surprise at the elegance of Ian’s pose in this photo, not to mention the fashion-forwardness of his outfit.
I believe in Hong Kong circles he has become known as a stylista to be feared and admired from afar. Especially when he takes his shirt off to show off his comedy tan.
These impeccable fashion credentials made him the natural choice as iforone’s favourite international Style Scout, and I have no doubt he’ll be keeping us all enthralled with his on-trend reports. Ignore him at your peril! Style Scout: Andree Scanlon October 22nd, 2009
She has threatened me with death if I use this photo any bigger than a postage stamp, but hey she lives on the other side of the world, so here is your first glimpse of iforone’s new New York Style Scout…
Meet Andree: an old friend and possibly the most on-it stylista I know. Ouch. I think I just got virtually kicked in the shins for saying that. Ha!
We met many, many years ago – I had just started as a junior writer and was petrified silly of this tiny, immaculately put together blonde person who brought a new handbag to work every day.
The perfect facade soon crumbled, however, after we both landed jobs at seventeen magazine, and with only four of us on the team and many late nights of deadlines to get through, The Real Andree - of wicked wit, puppy love and an all-consuming Nando’s addiction – emerged.
She is very, very funny. Especially after a few margaritas or when she’s running the pavement gauntlet in ’dinner shoes’ (heels too high to wear anywhere but under a dinner table).
Needless to say, the entire seventeen team went into mourning when she up and left us for some random place called New York City. I mean, honestly, what did it offer that we couldn’t provide?
Nevermind, we’ve got her back now, in a sense. Yay, welcome Andree – I’ve missed you! Style Scout: Sam Morrison October 15th, 2009
Meet iforone’s new Jo’burg contributor, Sam Morrison, who describes herself like this: ‘Creative director by day, Yogi by night and shoe-a-holic all the time.’
With over 50 pairs of shoes - although the yogi in her would deny this if asked – Sam admits to planning her outfits around which pair she’s going to wear that day. While her husband keeps newly bought items for a ’special occasion’, Sam believes every day is a special occasion and an excuse to slip on whatever new purchase has taken her fancy.
Her ultimate fashion goal? To own every classic handbag ever designed, from the Chanel Reissue 2.55, the iconic ‘LV’ monogram canvas, the Gucci Jackie O Bag to the infamous Hermes Birkin bag… Namasté!
Photograph by A Woodburn The I For One Fashion Week Team September 24th, 2009I want to introduce you to the people who helped me make Fashion Week happen… I couldn’t have done it without them: Dino & Hurb Considering I only found out about these two documentary/film making whizz kids a day before Fashion Week started, it’s a small miracle that everything ran as smoothly as it did. In fact, it’s safe to say, we got on like a house on fire!
Dino played my wingman at all the shows: his camera trained on me as I raced between backstage and the auditorium, and, erm, occasionally the bar! Hurb – the mad man magician – stayed up most nights after the shows until dawn the next day to get his tightly edited video packages uploaded in time. Thanks guys, you rock! Nicole & Brett
Meet the cutest couple at Fashion Week: Brett, an up-and-coming fashion photographer, and his stylist girlfriend, Nicole aka Nac Nak, who cruised around the convention centre, snapping all the fabulous fashionistas that seemed more than ready to pose for their camera. Brilliant work, you beauties, well done! Natalie Dixon September 14th, 2009
Meet Nats, aka Jozi, my friend and long-time iforone contributor who, despite being a recent convert to the Mother City and her mountain, remains my eyes and ears up North.
She has a knack for knowing what’s going to be big before it’s happened, an enviable wardrobe of one-offs and a bigger picture brain that never stops buzzing. Oh, and a highly infectious giggle when talking about boys with buff abs… Mmn, mmn. Me Julie August 12th, 2009
Meet my blogging NBF, Juliet Hutton Squire: jewellery designer, fabulous fashionista and web editor of her own jewellery website, Adorn London. The funny thing is, my blogger NBF and I have never met – we both know people who know people who know… Well, you get the picture. And these same people deigned that she and I should meet.
Since we live on opposite ends of the global pond, we started madly swopping ideas over email, and before you could say ‘great minds think alike’, I had launched iforone and Juliet started rolling out the launch plan for Adorn London.
As of today, this lovely lass is the latest contributor added to iforone’s growing list of talented people trotting around the globe seeking out must-know-about trends and the very latest in greatest products for you, so keep an eye out for her in-the-know scoops. Contributor: Gin Scott June 24th, 2009
Genevieve, or Gin, as she’s known to her friends, is a woman to ignore at your peril. Firstly, she has oodles of personal style and charisma; secondly, she’s an absolute laugh and a brilliant friend and last, but not least, she’s always one step ahead of the rest of the fashion pack when it comes to what’s going down style-wise in cosmopolitan countries far, far, away from here.
As a lifelong fashion addict, Gin turned her passion for all things bright and beautiful into a career, first as a designer, then as a buyer and now as a denim supplier for a big high-street chainstore. She spends much of her time travelling around the globe, poor poppet, and everywhere she goes, her camera goes with her…
That’s why iforone has secured her talents (if I told you how I did it, I’d have to kill you, ha ha) to send us the global scoop of what to expect in coming seasons. Shop windows, people on the street, new must-buys and must-sees… Watch out for her posts in the new Trend Forecast and Style Scout categories. Contributor: Dewald Daniels June 18th, 2009
Meet iforone’s first contributor – fashion photographer and friend, Dewald Daniels who has come on board to capture in images the way real women wear style…
Why? Well, I for one believe that style is a personal choice, whereas fashion is dictated by the crowd. For this reason, I knew that Dewald, (whose work has featured in Deluxe, Chew, Cosmo and One Small Seed) combines his creative genius and absolute individualism with an easy grace and gentle humour, was the perfect person to shoot stylish women of substance. Look out for his blog posts in iforone’s new People and Parties categories. |
